Hike Date: September 1-9, 2016
Trail: Superior Hiking Trail
Trip Plan: Canada to Wisconsin, ~310 miles. Finish on the 9th day. Average of 34 miles per day. Solo, unsupported.
From Fastest Known Time archive (FKT Proboards): “Unsupported means you have no external support of any kind. Typically, this means that you must carry all your supplies right from the start, except any water that can be obtained along the way from natural sources. This approach has also been termed “alpine style”. The longest trip I’m aware of using this style is Coup’s 20-day thru-hike of the Colorado Trail. For most people, carrying enough food for more than a few days to one week will be prohibitive. Unsupported also means unaccompanied! (i.e., no pacers) Further note: Some people get really crazy about what does or does not fit into “unsupported”.” ...

We are sad to report that the St. Croix Valley Triathlon has been cancelled for 2017. This event has been a hallmark of the Final stretch events but the city of Hudson has decided that it causes too much congestion on 1st Street and crossing 2nd Street at St. Croix Street. We had a problem with allowing residents down 1st Street during the race. If you would like further...

Sometimes you get what you want. Sometimes you don't. That is tha nature of democracy.
The process determining the MMAs is a democratic one, which, as one of the Selectors, who shall remain nameless, I appreciate and respect. Naturally, I don't always get what I want....

On the surface, the women's Performance of the Year award may seem controversial, but as far as the Selectors were concerned, it really wasn't.
Here's why:
- Kortney Haag's course record - 2:10:08--at Buffalo Olympic was the fastest Olympic-ish time by a Minnesota woman last season. Her margin was 50 seconds and she beat a very strong field. Why wasn't this the POY? Because it didn't blow our collective minds. Kortney's career PR at this distance is 2:08.
- Diane Hankee beat the deepest women's field of the year at the Apple Duathlon. It was an awesome result, but it did not blow our minds. Had her time been a minute-or-two faster, her effort would have contended for the award.
- Erin Hyndman-Farrens' 10:02:29 3rd place finish at Ironman Louisville. This effort blew our minds. A PR by 12 minutes and the 2nd fastest time by a Minnesota woman ever, this wonderful effort would have won the award most years.
But not in 2016....

Trinona is going back to its independent roots.
Ownership of the self-proclaimed “World’s Biggest Little Triathlon” now belongs to the original event founders, Winona native Dave Schutz and his wife, Amanda.
Life Time had owned and produced the Trinona Triathlon since 2011 and will continue to be a sponsor while also supporting the event via its Chronotrack registration and timing platform.
“We are incredibly excited to work once again with all the amazing volunteers, businesses and organizations, which have made this event so charming and grassroots oriented,” Schutz said in a press release. “We look forward to making this a Winona showcase like never before.” ...
