In the words of the great Devon Palmer: "I am leaving behind the rough and tumble rodeo of professional racing for the glitz and glamour of amateurism."
As I sit down to write this post, I reflect on the last 24 months of my life and how much has changed. I took my pro card in triathlon, picked up and moved my life from Wausau, WI to Indianapolis, IN, started a new job as a hospital pharmacist with Community Health Network, bought a new home, came out to my family and friends, having a lot of ups and downs as an athlete along the way.
As a whole, I really only had two very mediocre seasons as a professional triathlete. It took me those two years to realize what makes triathlon worthwhile to me. It's not the elite status, the money, the sponsorships, or the pride I get when I say, "I'm a pro." It's the EXPERIENCE, the PEOPLE, the COMRADERY, being the BEST I can be amongst athletes that are doing triathlon for the same reasons. I've said this before, but I don't do anything to be mediocre at it. Okay, maybe I didn't give being a pro triathlete a true chance, but what is the point in beating a dead horse if I'm not enjoying being a pro? Is it worthwhile to keep fighting through 7th, 8th, 9th place finishes, not make any money doing it, still having to work full-time because that's how I support myself, not allowing for proper recovery like other pros can? That in and of itself is not...

MINNESOTA MULTISPORT AWARDS - Yesterday, we revealed the official nominees for 2016 Grand Master of the Year.
Today we introduce the nominees for 2016 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR. The criteria are the same as those discussed in the intro to yesterday's post, though the athletes that these nominees are measured alongside are past ROYs like Kortney Haag (2008), Suzy Fox (2009), Heather Lendway (2012) and Nick Nygaard (2014).
Here, in alpha order, are the official nominees for 2016 Minnesota Rookie of the Year:

2016 MINNESOTA MULTISPORT AWARDS - It's that time of year again: Time to announce the MMA nominees. To be eligible for consideration, athletes need a minimum of three "outstanding" efforts during the season in question, though MMA Selectors prefer that considerees have four or more such performances.
Next, by "outstanding" we mean that performances need to approach, match or exceed the highest standards set at the races in question. Also, athletes are measured against those that have historically set the highest performance standards. In the category we're highlighting today--GRAND MASTER OF THE YEAR--athletes are measured next to past GMOYs, like Greg Taylor, Ben Ewers, Pam Stevens and Neil KIng.
We use USAT's definition of Grand Masters, i.e. Men 60+ and women 55+. ...

ONE LAST TRI - DANI VSETECKA returned to her winning ways after a two-and-a-half month injury absence on Sunday at One Last Tri Olympic-esque (732m-27-10K). The win was the 2015 Rookie of the Year's second in four starts this season and 5th (in 8 starts) of her young career.
Her time was impressive - 2:08:33--and landed her in 5th place overall. The men who finished in front of her were credentialed athletes, starting with winner JASON TOTH (2:00:47), who was also victorious eight days earlier at Square Lake. (We suspect that Jason, who currently resides in Eagan, may be a New York state transplant.)
The runner-up was former Team Minnesota guy RYAN BAILEY, who got his pro license in 2015 then sort of disappeared. It was good to have him back on the local scene. Ryan's time was only eight seconds off Toth's pace...
