GRANITEMAN CLEARWATER PREVIEW - The Graniteman, a popular sprint triathlon, was launched in Rockville back in 2004, where it remained until 2009. In 2010, it relocated to its current venue in Clearwater, which makes it more accessible to athletes from The Cities. In 2015, it added a Olympic distance race.
The popularity of Graniteman Clearwater convinced organizers to create a Series, which originally included G-Man races in St. Cloud, and a terrific venue in Big Lake. The St. Cloud race was short-lived due to inherent logistical and political issues. It was replaced by the iconic Buffalo Triathlon, which is now produced under the Graniteman umbrella.
The 2016 Graniteman Clearwater events will take place on July 10, and registration is open. It expects to serve between 350 and 400 athletes this year....

MTN and Excelsior Running present their ATHLETES OF THE MONTH for June 2016: *
ATHLETES OF THE MONTH
Hanna Grinaker, 28, St. Paul & Kris Spoth, 28, White Bear Lake
In her first month of multisport racing, Hanna was unbelievable. She won twice (New Bri and Lake Waconia), both with resounding CRs. In her other two efforts--Liberty Half (4:47:07 despite riding long!) and Buffalo Olympic (2:10:58)--she placed 2nd. Several other women raced brilliantly, most notably Gaby Bunten (Wins at Trinona and RochesterFest) and Suzie Fox (Wins at Pigman Sprint and Copper Creek), but Hanna's meteoric emergence was unlike anything we've ever seen....

LAKE WACONIA TRIATHLON - The young 2016 multi season here in Minnesota has been marked by several outstanding performances, but none have been, in our opinion, outstandinger than the one's turned in by BF/GF Sean Cooley and Hanna Grinaker last Sunday at the 27th annual Lake Waconia Triathlon. We'd be flabbergasted if these amazing efforts were not nominated for Performance of the Year at season's end.
We'll start with Hanna (photo by Drew Frakes). When she blasted out of T2 on the heels of leader Lisa Lendway, those who watched knew that the game was over. Minnesota's Uber-Rookie ran at UW-Madison and few if any of her amateur peers can match strides with her. The question at that point was not whether she would win, but by how much. A course record was a foregone conclusion. Only injury could get in the way....

The day’s events began with the elites on the standard 10-kilometer run, 40-kilometer bike, 5-kilometer run course, where Lieto posted the day’s fastest time of 1 hour, 58 minutes, 48 seconds to win a national title in only his second-ever duathlon. Hill won the women’s title in 2:13:49 in her first duathlon event....
