2014 TEAM MINNESOTA - WOMEN - As we did with the men on Friday, here are the women who made this year's Team Minnesota. Included are last year's rankings, in parentheses, and their 2014 ranking points and totals.
1. HEATHER LENDWAY (2) - 1+1+1+1+1+1+ = 6
2. DANI FISCHER (Not Eligible) - 2+2+2+2+2+2 = 12
3. CATHY YNDESTAD (3) - 3+3+3+3+4+3 = 19
4. SUZIE FOX (5) - 4+4+5+4+5+3 = 25
5. ELAINE NELSON (Did not race in 2013) - 7+7+4+5+4+5 = 32

ED. Until we stumbled upon the post below, we did not know that DANI FISCHER's victory at USAT Long Course Nationals last June was her debut effort at 70.3, making the fact that her time--4:23:37--was the fastest of the season by an amateur American female even more awesome. ADA – Wausau, Wis.,native Dani Fischer has been out of the country only once, when she visited Canada.
Her first trip out of North America could be to Sweden.
Fischer, 25, who is a full-time pharmacist in Wausau, won the USA Triathlon Long Course National Championship Sunday morning at the Grand Rapids Triathlon, thereby qualifying for next year's World Championships in Sweden. She completed the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run in 4 hours, 23 minutes and 37 seconds....

Minnesota Multisport Awards – Men’s MOST IMPROVED was one of the more hotly debated categories. In the end, Ryan Bailey won the award, though by the narrowest margin over Brooks Grossinger.
Here is a cursory explanation of how this award was determined:
CHAP ACHEN – Achen’s improvement was definitely nomination-worthy, but the Selectors ranked him generally in the 12th-15th range, though one supporter had him in the 10th spot. That the 45-year-old was never tested head-to-head with the other MOY nominees, nor did he beat any eventual Team MN athletes along the way hurt his chances to win this award.
NATE HOFFMAN – When figuring out this category the Selectors look at a nominee’s movement within or toward Team Minnesota. A few Committee members ranked Nate 10th, the rest ranked him #11. A star duathlete, had his tri performances—5th at Buffalo Olympic, 10 minutes behind the winner; 10th at Heart of the Lakes, nine minutes...

On June 25, 2006, I went to jail. It turned out to be one of the best days of my life.
I had been in a downward spiral since my marriage ended in 1997, and I didn't know what to do or how to live. I was lost and empty. I'd been a heavy drinker for years, but when I discovered meth at age 31, all it did for me was prove the pick me up I needed to keep drinking.
Nine long, hard years of daily meth use followed, along with continued drinking. During that period, I lost relationships with everyone, thinking I was protecting them from seeing how just how bad I'd become.
The day I was arrested I was 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighed 82 pounds (I thought I looked pretty good!) But when I look at my booking photo today—I carry it in my purse to remind me—I know just how wrong I was....
