ONE LAST TRI RACE REPORT - The week leading into One Last Tri my body was feeling sluggish. All week I felt like I struggled through my workouts. My nagging hamstring pain that usually wears off a few blocks into a run seemed to stick with me throughout each run. My workout notes for swim, bike AND run looked like a week taken out of my notebook from a year ago. When the announcer asked how I was feeling race morning I gave him a shoulder shrug. I know my body has felt heavy and tired before many races where I’ve performed well, but the stats on this week weren’t looking great.
I signed up for One Last Tri to make the season last as long as possible. At this point my big races were done and I could really concentrate on having fun while racing. Sunday morning was a cool 45-ish, but I was well prepared for this with multiple layers of pants and shirts, a jacket, a sweatshirt, a hat and mittens. I got to transition around 6:30 when it opened, quickly dropped my bike and headed back to the car to stay warm for a while....

Minnesota Multisport Awards - Today we introduce the five women who are official nominees in what has been known as the "Most Improved" category. The MMS Selectors admit that they hate the title. It's confusing; it doesn't adequately describe the category.
An alternate title would the "Rising Star" award, though most of the selectors aren't fond of that either, because the eventual nominees are those who are upwardly mobile with respect to Team Minnesota rankings. A nominee may be one who had not earned a Team berth in the past, but will this year, or come very close to doing so, i.e. say, ranking among the Top 11-20 in their gender.
Or if could be a person who has demonstrably climbed the ladder within Team Minnesota. There is so much talent in our state that moving up the ladder even a rung-or-two is very difficult, and one who does so will get serious consideration from the Selectors.
In alpha order, here are the official 2014 Most Improved (Women) nominees:

Last Friday (9/5) morning Ann, Heidi, and I packed Ann's minivan to the max and returned to Madison for IM Wisconsin where it all began two years ago. In some ways it felt like it had been way more then 2 years and in some ways it felt like a lot less. We also had our friend John riding with us this year who I don't think realized that he was subjecting himself to 4.5 hours of nonstop girl talk but he was a trooper and we had a lot of fun. I was ecstatic that Ann and Heidi signed up with me again for this year bc there is nobody else I would rather take this journey with a second time, the training, the travel, the lodging, the whole adventure, these are my girls. My parents made the 8 hour drive from South Dakota and arrived on Friday as well, they have been to every IM I have done in the US. I was so grateful to see them all over the course, to have them stay in the same hotel as me just like in 2012 and to spend a lot of time with them over the weekend....
