The temperature reached into the mid-90s on Sunday, June 10 during the Trinona Triathlon in Winona, MN. The International Distance (1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run) had 300 individual participants with another 30 teams, and the Sprint Distance (1/4 mile swim, 11 mile bike, 5K run) had 350 individuals and 22 teams.
In the Sprint race, Brian Sames (Shakopee) took the win with a strong run, finishing in 54:02. Sames passed Benjamin Trnka (St. Paul) to win by 22 seconds. Trnka placed second, and Jim Felling (River Falls) was about another minute behind in 3rd.
On the female side in the Sprint race, Diana Koepp (Rochester) used a speedy swim to take the win in 1:02:04. Koepp's swim was the 2nd...

(Great Photo - Iconic 88-year-old Bob Powers finishing on Sunday. Another great shot of Bob is on the next page. MTN thanks Drew Frakes and Nick Morales for the pics used in this post.)
Manitou Coverage - Harvey Skees should have won the 23rd Manitou Sprint Triathlon last Sunday. Not just his AG, but the whole shebang!...

Liberty Half Coverage - We hadn't seen Sean Kaneski (photo L) in almost a "Coon's Age." Though we don't know what a coon's age is exactly, we suspect that any Coon's Age worth it's salt (What does "worth it's salt" mean, anyway? We digress.) needs to be at least a decade. The last time we saw Sean was when he placed 13th overall (3rd in his AG) at Ironman Wisconsin. He popped a 9:46 that day. Nice. That was in 2003, nine years ago. Almost a Coon's Age.
One would expect that a person who hadn't been seen in almost a coon's age would have undergone some physical changes. Not total disfigurement, necessarily, but still some alterations that would be hard to miss. Hair or tooth loss, weight gain, varicosities, wearing clothes more suitable for the golf course than...Once again, we digress.
Sean hadn't changed all that much. He is still a handsome, dark-haired guy who is not burdened by tallness. And his thighs still ...

* 6th ANNUAL FAIRMONT TRIATHLONS - Saturday's lightly-attended Fairmont Olympic Triathlon was won by Jonathan Sage Martinson and Heather McCleery. Jonathon is an extremely handsome guy who really likes the nearly budgetless unfinished indi sci-fi film, "Project London." How arsty-fartsy is that! We watched a Youtube clip. It was kinda cool. We were unable to dig up any stuff on Heather, but we suspect that she is a totally cool person.
Fairmont's companion Sprint Triathlon boasted almost 100 individual finishers and was won by Lucas DeWitt and repeat champion Stephanie Peterson, who was nominated for Minnesota Rookie of the Year in 2011. Steph (photo L) grew up in Fairmont and is arguably the nicest person ever to come out of that bucolic southern Minnesota community. FAIRMONT RESULTS
* 3rd ANNUAL EU CLAIRE TRIATHLON - Minnesotans rocked socks on Sunday at the Eau Claire Triathlon, which was appropriately staged in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. "Eau Claire" is a French deal, meaning "Clear Waters." A pair of Minnesota's ...
