Daring to Tri...

mgtriMaple Grove Dare to Tri / TriStar 111 Preview - We think the name "Maik" is pronounced "Mike." Not sure, though. Maple Grove Tri co-founder/director, Lindsey Kurhajetz (pronounced "Kurr-High-etts"), who was featured in and on Triathlete Magazine's Swimsuit Issue (She was on the cover of the July issue!), thinks that the correct pronunciation is "Make." She's not sure, either.

We suspect that neither one of us is right. It's a German name and those folks talk differently than we do.

We want to pronounce the name correctly because the owner of that moniker, Maik Twelsiek, totally deserves the respect. Competing in Ironman races is growing more popular among St. Cloud area athletes.

More than 13 members of the Du Tri St. Cloud club are scheduled to compete in the Ford Ironman Louisville Aug. 28 in Kentucky. Five more are scheduled to compete in the Ford Ironman Wisconsin Sept. 11 in Wisconsin. And other members are competing in upcoming Ironman events in Florida and Canada.

Ironman is a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run....
