2015 MINNESOTA MULTISPORT AWARDS - The time has come to reveal the nominees for this year's MMAs. Only one of the categories has been determined thus far. ROOKIE OF THE YEAR. This one was a piece of cake. There are three rookies who stood out among the hundreds of this season's first-times. Each of these athletes are destined for stardom and compare favorably with the ROY nominees of past years.
As for the other categories, they are harder to determine this year than ever, but will be revealed here on MTN when the nominees are finalized. MMA winners will be revealed at Tri-Night '15 on November 14 at Gear West Bike & Triathlon in Long Lake. For ticket info, click MMA button on the right side of this page.
Here are the official nominees for Minnesota Rookie of the Year, and their season highlights. Nominees must have a minimum of three outstanding performances to be eligible for consideration:
AMY BORDEN, 30, Minneapolis (photo above L)
- 1st @ Lake Marion Olympic (Tie with Olivia Bagnall)
- 3rd @ Square Lake Short Course (behind Heather Lendway and Diane Hankee)
- 7th @ Lake Waconia
- 7th @ Chisago Sprint
TOBY HENKELS, 35, Mankato (photo L)
- 1st @ Fairmont Olympic
- 1st @ North Mankato
- 3rd @ Waseca Sprint (Behind Kevin O'Connor and Bennett Isabella)
DANI VSETECKA, 31, Rochester (photo R)
- 1st @ Door County Half IM - 4:46:29
- 1st amateur / 2nd overall @ Pigman Half - 4:41:34
- 1st @ Waseca Sprint 2014 *
- 2nd @ Treadman Du 2014 (Behind Jenn Scudiero) *
* The MMA Committee have determined that combining back-to-back partial seasons can count as a full season. Had Dani been able to race three times in 2015 (she's currently nursing an injury), only those races would have applied here. Also, once an athlete has three or more races on their resume, even if it had taken 2-3 years to do so, they are considered a veteran and no longer eligible for ROY consideration.
