Thanking Mother Earth....

ED. A few days ago we received this letter from Dr. Brett Oden, founder of the Buffalo Triathlon and the exciting new Bertram Blast Off-Road Tri:

MTN Guys,

Did you know the "average" person produces 2 lbs of carbon dioxide per day? And of course we know triathletes and Minnesotatrinews.com readers are far above average....

And that a single tree can sequester one ton of carbon dioxide by the time it reaches 40 years old?

Helping Minnesota triathletes do their part to fight global warming, Bertram Blast will (July 23) be buying and planting a tree for each participant who registers for the race.  Think of it as just a little thank-you to Mother Earth for exhaling so much carbon dioxide training and racing!

Racers will be able to come find their tree labeled with their name on raceday and watch it grow each year they are back to race. We hope to be able to continue this yearly as we have plenty of real estate to re-forest.  (Had I thought of this on the onset of the Buffalo Tri,  MN would have about 15,000 more trees right now!) I wanted to be able to have people actually plant their tree after crossing the finish line, but my tree specialist people tell me July is not ideal planting time, so we decided to go with the plan on having racers come find their tree if they are so inclined.
