Mindset Shift...

This August, I achieved a milestone in my life. I raced in the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championships in Omaha. I had a great race, made the podium for my age group and secured my spot to represent Team USA at the ITU World Championships in Rotterdam, Netherlands in September, 2017.

It was something that I thought was impossible…or should I say improbable five years ago. It was the result of a lot of hard work, intentional training…did I say a lot of hard work??? And passion. It was also the result of a shift in my mindset. And this is the milestone event I am writing about....

 

Five years ago, I started racing in triathlons. It was around the same time that I was a stay-at-home dad, wiping "poopy" diapers and driving a minivan with crying kids and stale cheerios stuck in the backseat. It was a point in my life where I was feeling sorry for myself.

My intention for getting involved in triathlons was to start something that allowed me to reach my potential…in some sort of capacity. For my confidence and well-being, I needed this type of outlet. Through self-reflection, I had come to the conclusion, whether it was in work, sports or relationships, I may not have always given it my everything.
