MTN's May 2018 Athletes of the Month...

The first full month of the 2018 tri / du season has concluded. Based on a minimum of two outstanding performances during this period, here are MTN's May Athletes of the Month:
MALE ATHLETE OF THE MONTH - MAY 2018
JESSON BAUMGARTNER, 36, Rochester (photo)
- Jesson raced twice, winning both times. His first W at Falls Du produced a course record. His 2nd win was at Apple, and featured a national class men's field including two-time national champion Todd Buckingham (MI), 2017 Apple winner Wade Cruser, Patrick Parish, the US's most decorated duathlete over the last half-dozen years, rising star Ted Treise, along with elites Kris Spoth, Josh Blankenheim, Brooks Grossinger, Kevin O'Connor, Andy Zabel, Jake Braam, Jacob Olsen et al. Baumgartner won the Duathlon World Championships in 2013....
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE MONTH & MASTER OF THE MONTH - MAY 2018
ANDREA MYERS, 42, Plymouth (photo above)
- Despite a foot injury, Andrea raced three times, winning twice (Falls and Cinco Du Mayo) and placing 2nd at Apple. Myers was nominated for MInnesota Master of the Year in 2017 and 2016.
MALE MASTER OF THE MONTH - MAY 2018
ROB MADGWICK, 53, Sauk Rapids (photo L)
- Madge placed 5th overall and set an AG record at Falls Du. He followed that with an outright win in race record time at Cinco Sprint. He also dominated the 50-plussers at Apple and earned a Team USA spot at Duathlon Nationals.
MALE JUNIOR OF THE MONTH - MAY 2087
ANDREW NOVAK, 16, Orononoco (photo L)
- We have our eye on this lanky young man. Thus far in 2018 he is three-for-three, claiming the junior titles at Apple, Oakdale and Falls.
FEMALE JUNIOR OF THE MONTH - MAY 2018
MACY IYER, 14, Edina
- Macy is a special talent. Thus far this season she has one outright women's win (Cinco Sprint) in which she destroyed the junior record. She was also top teen at Oakdale, where she placed 4th overall woman.
MALE GRAND MASTER OF THE MONTH - MAY 2018
LUKE HARNED, 65, Mahtomedi
Luke kicked off the '18 campaign with a AG record at Falls. He followed that with divisional wins at Oakdale and Apple.
FEMALE GRAND MASER OF THE MONTH - MAY 2018
PAM STEVENS, 65, Sartell
A true Minnesota pioneer, Pam has raced twice so far this season, blowing away AG records both times. At COLT, the 65-year-old from Sartell was the 3rd woman across the line. At Apple, she finished 13th overall.
