Our research suggests that two Junior Girls deserve JOY consideration. Every other teen only raced once, or their efforts weren't quite JOY-nomination quality. Additionally, we suggest that in this case - Junior Girls--only two outstanding performances, not three, are required for inclusion. This is because the Tri West results were very unofficial, and more top junior girls raced there than in any other MInnesota triathlon.
Here are the girls we recommend for JOY nominations:
MACY IYER, 19, Edina (2020 JOY, four-time nominee)
Highlights:
- 3rd overall / 1st Jr. @ Buffalo Sprint - 1:08:44 (2nd fastest Jr. time in course history.)
- 4th overall / 1st Jr. @ Graniteman CLearwater Sprint...
ISABEL MAHONEY, 15, Monticello (1st nomination)
Highlights:
- 3rd overall / 1st Jr. @ Turtleman Sprint
- 4th overall / 1st Jr. @ Big Lake Sprint
- 7th overall / 2nd Jr. @ Clearwater Sprint
Part of why the pickins seeemd a bit slim this year is the fact that BELLA BUENTING and GRACE BUSCH, two of of state's all-time best Juniors, aged up.However, there are some up-and-comers that we have our eyes on for 2024. We'd love to see MACY BELL, 18, return to local racing, and we are anxious to monitor the development of RAYCHEL TONG, 15, and ASHLEY CALVERT, 17. There will be others who emerge as well. Mav and I ar anxious to watch them race.
