The medical tent at any iron-distance race is a fascinating place. It’s packed with athletes, some who have crashed on the bike or otherwise sustained injuries, and others who suffer from overexertion and all variety of associated issues. But what of the nonphysical ailments that afflict long-course triathletes? Beyond the walls of the medical tent lie far more fascinating phenomena, mostly psychological in nature. I’m talking obsessive-compulsive disorder, overwrought imagination, borderline insanity and all range of other psychoses....

2013 FAVORITES - The Bike
Florida turned out to be triathlon's speedway as Andrew Starykowicz lowered his Ironman distance bike split record there to within 2:17 of the 4 hour barrier while Yvonne Van Vlerken post the best women's Ironman bike split of 2013 with a 4:35:49 mark. Crashes threatened Camilla Pedersen's life, concussed Meredith Kessler and sidelined Richie Cunningham for a critical part of the season. So was Alistair Brownlee’s 28:32 10,000 meter run on a track better than his 29:07 to win the 2012 London Olympic triathlon? Sebastian...

The new year is underway and we're already getting excited about the 2014 season. In '13, four of the ten women on Team Minnesota were first-timers. Two of those girls--Heather Lendway and Jenn Scudiero--were national champions. How cool is that!
By comparison, only one guy--Brian Sames--on Team Minnesota had not been there before.
Will there be some new blood on next year's Team? We think so. Guys who came close in 2013, like Dennis Dane and Jason Crisp, might do it. And then there's last year's Rookie of the Year nominees--Larry Hosch and Casey Miller. We'll need to see big time...
