MINNESOTA MULTISPORT HONORS – Today we reveal our final honors category, arguably the most prestigious one: “2019 Triathlete of the Year.”
Female TOY Nominees: GABY BUNTEN, HANNA GRINAKER, CATHY YNDESTAD, BECKY YOUNGBERG
2019 Female Triathlete if the Year – HANNA GRINAKER
Hanna won all four of the multis she finished in 2019, though one of those was an aquabike, the performance standards of which are still unestablished. Two of her three triathlon efforts earned POY nominations, one of which won the honor. The non-nominated performance, her win at Ironman Canada 70.3, also received serious POY discussion.

MINNESOTA MULTISPORT AWARDS - Here are the winners of the 2019 MOST IMPROVED honors:
Women Nominees: JENNA HORNER, JENNIFER FITZHARRIS-FUNK, JESSIE MAHER, RACHEL ZILINSKAS
WINNER: RACHEL ZILINSKAS
While it was obvious that Maher demonstrated the most "actual" improvement in 2019, two of the other three nominees--Horner and Zilinskas--posted the kind of results that would land them officially on Team Minnesota, with Fitzharris-Funk coming darn close to doing so, as well. Horner won two races and excelled in sprint and OLympic races, but Zilinkas demonstrated, in the opinion of three of the five Selectors, more versatility, racing admirably at half and full IM, as well as Olympic distance. Her 2nd place finish at Minneapolis in 2:08:46 was the kicker, though. That kind of speed is rare....

Yesterday November 13th was National Signing day for high school athletes to sign national letters of intent to attend a college and compete in sport. This is always a very exciting day and schools around the country do big ceremony’s and then the college that the athlete is attending sends out announcements of excitement that so and so will be attending that college to compete in the sport they do.
Here in Minnesota the Star Tribune newspaper posted a list of all the athletes in Minnesota that were signing yesterday and on that list was my daughter Bella Buenting a Minnetonka High school senior. What is unique about Bella is that she was the only athlete listed under the sport of Triathlon and too be honest I don’t know of any other athletes in Minnesota (well actually maybe one 2 years ago as I think Taylor went off for NCAA Triathlon) So in the state of Minnesota it’s rare to see an athlete sign for the sport of Triathlon! I mean Triathlon is not even a high school sport here in Minnesota, but I would love to change that! ...
Happy Thanksgiving from MTN!
