Restauranteur, entrepeneur, educator, author, lecturer, endurance athlete extraordinaire. We're describing Minnesota multisport pioneer ROD RAYMOND. He looks like he's one of the Hemsworth Brothers, but he's not. What he is, though, is a HOOT!
Rod's nickname is "Rocket", or "El Rocketo" as his hispanic friends call him.
"Rocket" a hockey nickname because he was a high school and college star in that sport, but it could also apply to his triathlon (and nordic ski and inline and road and mountain biking) prowess....

ED. A few days ago we FB messaged Ironwoman MIchelle Andres to tell her we miss her, and to see what she is up to, and what she has planned for 2017. This was her reply. Enjoy.
Hi!!! What a treat to hear from you! I'm doing fantastic! Life is good. I've had a blog update on my to do list for a good 6 months now. I'm going to get around to posting one. I keep writing and I'm pretty sure I have a short novel by now. Currently, I'm just loving being a mom. It's hard to believe in just 3 years Lee and I will he empty nesters and then I'll be back rocking those masters age group races as best I can. This year my focus is on casual running races. I jumped into a marathon last weekend to get a good training run in and plan to do Fargo in a few weeks. I'm just looking to secure a spot for Boston next year. I did get a good enough time on my training run so I considered bailing on Fargo, but then the voice of IM, Mike Reilly, is announcing so I might as well go for it and get my free sweatshirt.

Ten Truths of No-Bullshit Triathlon Training...
By Tom Demerly (tomdemerly.com)
Triathlon is big business now. With profits to earn and gadgets to sell how do you cut through the marketing haze and decide what really gets you to the finish line?
There are 2,377 books about triathlon on Amazon.com. An online seminar, a Facebook page and- bam, anyone is a triathlon coach. Add triathlon forums, that guy with an M-Dot tattoo dispensing advice and the amount of bullshit heaped on new triathletes is harder to cut through than the swim pack at Lake Placid....

When we think of Duluth's male multisport pioneers, we immediately think of Brian Bich, now 51, Rhett Bonner, now 53, and Rod Raymond, now 51. The most decorated of this triumvirate is Bich, a multiple national champion, former US Master of the Year and winner of nine MMAs. He is still very active, in fact, he won the MOY last year.
Bonner, a physician with movie star good looks--think Michael Fassbender (photo below)--, the guy who portrayed Steve Jobs--hasn't raced in a multi since 2014, though he remains an active and accomplished nordic skier.
Below are some of Bonner's triathlon highlights, which include his dominating AG victory at Nationals in 2009. (We will post Raymond's accomplishments tomorrow.)

Photo - This pic of HKM was taken several months ago.
Though HEIDI KELLER-MILER, 53, has popped in-and-out of the tri world over the last thirty years, she has had a major impact during those "in" times. A pro in the late 80s and early nineties, her accomplishments featured a podium finish at St, Anthony's, which was arguably America's most competitive Olympic-distance race back then, she took a dozen years off to have her family, then returned to racing as an amateur in 2005. Though rusty, she still earned a berth on Team Minnesota that year.
Since then she has been named Minnesota Master of the Year three times.
HKM prefers Kare 11 to WCCO, has attended hundreds of U2 concerts and has almost a thousand Facebook friends. She is also a total HOOT! And we wish she would return to the racing scene at her earliest convenience....
