The "Sarah Legacy"...

INDOOR TRI STUFF - Recently a guy asked us who we thought "was the heroiest triathlete in Minnesota last year." Our immediate reply was, "Sara Henekens."

"Why?" asked the guy.

Because we met her at an OptumHealth Performance indoor triathlon 13 months ago. She was pretty and nice and scared do-do-less. She was doing her first triathlon. An aficionado of food, she treated herself to an especially large breakfast after completing the event. Apropos of nothing, she wore a really cool hat.

Fast forward to September and check out the photo (L). That's Sarah finishing Ironman Wisconsin! How freakin' awesome and hero-y is that! From Zero to 140.6 in nine months!

The 2013 indoor tri season is underway and we know that there will be lotsa folks who will make the transition from the initial dabble in the indoor multisport experience to outdoor tri participation. Some will stick with sprints this summer. Others may try an Olympic race or two. A few may even do a half IM. And an even smaller group will make the supreme jump from the pool-trainer-treadmill to the 140.6, like Sarah Hennekens....

It is all good!

Hey, three of Life Time Fitness Indoor races have already taken place this month, the first at their Fridley location on February 3; the others in Maple Grove and St. Louis Park a week later. Here's come cursory coverage of those events:

FRIDLEY

This event had 34 finishers. Leading the way for their respective genders were home club guy Jeremy Sroga and toothy Canadian transplant Susan Woods, who is a totally cool person. Jeremy enjoyed a successful outdoor season in 2012, cracking the overall Top 15-20 overall on several occasions. We think the name "Sroga" is either Polish or something else. Susan is an accomplished triathlete who is one of our region's Top 50-54ers. Susan enjoys the novels of Agatha Christie and is a good knitter. RESULTS

MAPLE GROVE

Fifty-five people finished this event, which was won for the 2nd straight year by Nick Shultz, who is a fine fellow. The women's winner was Camille Picconatto, who, according to her Facebook page, was pleased with the service she received from Heating & Cooling Two, Inc. She grew up in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, is very pretty and married with two very blond children. RESULTS

ST. LOUIS PARK

Fifty-two guys and girls did this one. The fastest guy has a totally cool name: Regis (You thought there was only one, right?) Duport. We hit FB and only found one guy with that name. He is from Lyon, France and likes soccer a lot. He has a sister named "Lisou." (Pretty name!) So, let's assume that there is only one Regis Duport in the whole wide world and that he won the SLP Indoor Tri. Also, let's assume that he pronounces his name very Frenchly, like "Reh-zhee Du-Puah."

The fastest woman was Emily Mack. Emily did pretty darn good (21st woman overall) at Square Lake last year. RESULTS
