Rattlesnakes & Waiting For Brownies...

dianeBy Diane Hankee

I chose to do the upcoming IM Texas because we have family right near the Woodland

Not having biked outside in seven months, and racing like a cowboy without a heartrate monitor, I went out too hard on the first leg of the bike to later get passed by two gals in my age group. Funny to me because I know better. Towards the end of the bike, the guy I was biking near decided he needed to take the entire width of the road. Leaving me nowhere to go but into the grassy ditch, around a culvert, and amazingly back on course. Cannot believe I didn't crash horribly.

The run was very exciting, I passed one of the girls from the bike, and continued to run with the another. Having to play back and forth with this gal made the race very rewarding. We fought to the bitter end.

After, I sat at a buffet for an hour and a half, for which at one point the server thought I'd left because I was standing in the desert line with a bunch of kids for 15 minutes waiting for them to resupply the chocolate brownie.

ED. - FYI, Diane won her 35-39 AG and placed 8th overall among amateur women. Her time was a PR - 4:42:45.
