David Thompson showed a visible hitch in his step when he began the running portion of the 29th annual Brewhouse Triathlon on Saturday at Island Lake, a product of an ankle injury he suffered playing with his 3-year-old son at a playground.
But even Thompson on a bum leg is better than most triathletes on their best day.

Thompson, of St. Paul, cruised to a course record, covering the 1.5-kilometer swim, 40K bike and 10K run in 1 hour, 56 minutes, 11 seconds, good for his 99th career victory. He now holds the current course record and at the Brewhouse’s previous Pike Lake course.

Bridget McCoy of St. Paul won the women’s race in 2:14:09....

 

Thompson will go for win No. 100 at the Pigman Triathlon on Aug. 16 near Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

“I started out a little slow with the run on the way out,” the 37-year-old Thompson said. “But it loosened up and on the way back I felt good.” READ MORE
