A Spate of Indoor Tris...

LIFE TIME FITNESS INDOOR TRIATHLONS - Do nine things constitute a "plethora?" Probably not.

Perhaps "spate" is a better word. The term refers to things that a substantial, though not necessarily plethoric.

We digress.

On January 8 there was a spate of indoor tris, which were staged at various Life Time Fitness clubs around the Twin Cities. They all consisted of a 10-minute pool swim, followed by 30-minutes on a spin bike and 20-minutes on a treadmill. The events were social and basically low key. Part of what makes them so cool is that you could ride alongside slower bikers, but not pass them. Or run next to faster runners, and not be passed by them.

Here are a few race capsules:  ...

CHANHASSEN - Twenty-seven finishers. The fastest guy was Craig Parker, who is from Victoria. We think he prefers the Badgers to the Gophers and has seen giraffes in their natural habitat. The fastest woman was Erin Lahti (photo), a tri veteran who has an elaborate group of tattoos on her left arm. RESULTS

CROSSTOWN - Sixteen finishers. A small event, but it featured a quasi-spate of veteran outdoor triathletes, some of whom are highly decorated, like the winners Brian Sames and Nicole "Heiney" Heininger. Sames, pronounced "Sahm-ess," like "Thomas," was the 2012 Rookie of the Year runner-up and is a three-time Team Minnesota member. Heiney was ROY in 2013 and has been named to Team Minnesota twice. Brian is into Eminem and "Family Guy." He thinks that Ron Burgundy is a HOOT! Nicole has a great smile and used to play collegiate hockey.

The aforementioned spate of veteran outdoor triathletes included Peter Lancaster and Linda Langkos, both of whom have mantels crowded with AG awards. RESULTS

More indoor tri coverage will be posted soon.
