"I Knew It Was Going to be a Good Day"...

SARTELL — With his attention focused on the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii, Ryan Giuliano (photo) wanted to have a better duathlon experience on which to build.

Giuliano, 35, had a disappointing finish at the Duathlon Nationals, not running his best in the April race in Greenville, South Carolina....

"I got a bad cold, still ran and finished third," Giuliano said. "I needed to find another race to see what I could do."

Enter Saturday's 37th Annual Apple Duathlon in Sartell, where Giuliano found out he could do very well when healthy.

He set a course record in winning the event at Sartell Middle School with a time of 1 hour, 19 minutes, 46.01 seconds. That time sliced 11 seconds off the course record run by David Thompson in 2014.
"It was wonderful," said Giulliano, the 2018 Wisconsin Ironman champion. "I tend to perform better when it's cool. When I heard it was going to be the 50s, I knew it was going to be a good day."  READ MORE
