Syvertson Crushes Course Record at Tinman XXXVIII...

38th Morris Tinman Sprint & Olympic - Alexandria's swole BRIAN STORHAUG collected his second consecutive win at Tinman Sprint on May 6. The W was, according to our records, the 8th of Brian's impressive triathlon career. His clocking--59:32--was the second fastest in event history, eclipsed ony by his 2022 time of 57:33. Our guess is that weather conditions were more accomodating last season....

Unsurprisingly, Brian outswam and outbiked the 37- finisher field en route to a 3:45 win over runner-up JUDSON SCHULZ, an 18-year-old tri-rookie from Golden Valley, whose swim and bike times were solid, but it was his 5K run split --17:22--that got us excited about his future in this sport.

The women's Sprint was won by Melrose's AMY PREUSSER, a 26-year-old K-6 teacher in St. Cloud. We were unable to unearth prior endurance sports results for Amy, suggesting that she kicked off her multisport career with a win.

The Olympic race only fielded fifteen entrants, but the men that finished 1-2 brought regional elite credentials to the starting line. SPENCER SYVERTSON, winner of the Tinman Sprint in 2019, led through the first two phases of this year's Olympic-esque race (1100 yd swim - 19 mile bike - 10K run) then cruised to a course-record win in 1:45:11.

Spencer (photo L), who races in a Speedo when weather allows, was pursued by fellow Alexandrian and Speedo aficionado COREY NYGAARD, who threw down the fastest run split of the day, and  also managed to dip under MITCH BAKKER's former course best. (Bakker is a very cool guy from Anchorage, Alaska, who has Minnesota ties.)

The women's Olympic field was was led by triathlon veteran PATTY JAEGER, 57, from a pretty 350ish resident town called Vergus, which has a really cool statue of a Loon (top photo) in its municipal park.
