Tri For a Cause Coverage - Greg Rhodes, 31 (photo L), was the first place winner of the inaugural triathlon fundraiser, Tri For A Cause, at the Crosby Memorial Park on July 16.

Although Rhodes lives in Bloomington, he has been a frequent visitor to Crosby since he was six years-old. His father, Dr. V. Terry Rhodes, is a practicing Otolaryngologist at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center.

I love this race and was looking forward to it all week long. I knew the weather was going to be warm but I thrive in the warm weather. I would much rather it be 90 degrees than 75. I also knew this was going to be good training for Pigman Long Course in August which is known to be steamy.

My swim is still not where it needs to be - especially since I didn't swim for six weeks and then I fell down the stairs a couple of weeks ago and I might have a slight crack in my rib or a rib out of place. Wet Work...

humidityHOLT XXVI Coverage - Twas not a day for records, unless heat index and dew points are the records you're looking for. But that's not what we're talking 'bout here. Purely and simply, it was a tough-ass day, for everyone but that lovable mutant Jan Guenther, who actually enjoys these kinds of extreme conditions, and performances suffered.

It became clear, though "clear" is an odd word to use here, when folks were driving to Annandale on race morning that expectations had to be altered. What appeared to be a ubiquitous ground fog was just saturated air. Viscous, the dankness felt like 10W-30 on the skin.

At 6 AM it was already 80 degrees, but felt like 90. And the dew points were in the mid-70s. And conditions would worsen by the hour....
