Mo Mouw's favorite beer is Summit Pale Ale. Knowing that his friend David Holden shares an affection for this particular adult beverage, Mo asked David if he, perchance, "had a six-pack?" Overhearing the question, Dan Cohen peeled back his skinsuit, revealing a "six pack" of his own. The laughing trio then posed for the picture you see here. And whether you believe it or not, Dan's gut is NOT sucked in. It's really like that.
This photo was taken at last year's Croixathlon. Dan won that race. His shirted compatriots, David (right) and Mo (left) took 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
Cohen and Holden will be racing in this year's edition--the 5th--of the Croixathlon. Mo has yet to register, though his lovely wife..
Suzann, who placed 3rd in 2009, has. Don't be surprised if he pops up on race day.
On paper, Cohen should be favored to repeat on Saturday. And Holden should grabbed 2nd again. Look for Croixathlon vets Paul Krumrich and Jim Felling to fight over the final podium step, if Mo doesn't show, that is.
The women's field will be stronger than ever and will feature two of Minnesota's hottest performers this season: Jenny Wilcox and Cathy Lee. Wilcox has won three of the five races she's she's entered this year and placed 2nd at Gear West, where she bested Lee by one place. Lee, who picked up with a Kona slot at Kansas 70.3, is the superior swimmer. The race for first is too close to call.
The race for 3rd, however, is, we believe, easy to call. We give the nod to two-time Croixathlon champ Lindsay Marshall. We suspect that Jackie Pribyl, a two-time podium finisher here will take fourth and fifth will either go to 2009 Rookie of the Year nominee Greta Simpson or Suzann Mouw.
Registration remains open, so if you're looking for a good race this weekend....
