2012 Race Registration Updates...

blDid you hope to get into the Northwoods Triathlon this year? We hope not. It's already full.

Yup, for the second straight, consecutive, back-to-back year in a row, the Nevis-based Tri Minnesota Series race has filled faster than its 80+ Minnesota multisport counterparts. Way to go, Northwoods! Guess this means that you'll never advertise on MTN, huh?...

There are other great races that, while yet to fill, should do so in the relatively near future. Annual classics Pigman Sprint, Timberman and Lake Minnetonka are in this enviable position, thus we encourage you to sign up at your earliest convenience. We suspect that the 3rd annual Chases the Police Triathlon in bucolic Walker is also in this category. It filled early in 2010 and 2011 and unless they significantly raise their reg. limit, it should fill well before the season gets underway.logo

Also, there are races that currently have no enrollment ceiling and as such are sure to have record attendance in 2012. Graniteman-Big Lake is one example. BL enjoyed a super launch in '11 (400ish participants), and could double that number this time around. Also expect Tri For a Cause in Crosby to double, triple or even fourple the number of attendees they drew last year.

And speaking of the G-Man races, the brand new Graniteman-St. Cloud is currently enjoying brisk registration. This promises to be a super event. Check it out.

Let's also remind all the newbies and wannabees out there that Minnesota will have a busier that ever winter indoor season in 2012, and these cool events are a non-intimidating introduction to multisport racing. We highly recommend that you, and your veteran peers, get more involved with the indoor scene this year.

NEW UPDATE: We just heard from LAKE MINNETONKA founder/director Ross Rogney. More than 500 of his 600 slots have filled. He will accept approximately 40 more registrations, after which he'll make 50 Charity Slots available. Act quickly if you want to get into this annual classic!
