Land Between the Lakes Press Release

If you are a triathlete or duathlete, you know that the race season in the midwest begins in earnest starting in late May. We are sure many would argue that the very best triathlon events can be found in our great state bewteen the months of June and September. ....

MN is also known as "home" to some of the top elite amateurs and pros in the country. For the last 9 years, The Land Between the Lakes Triathlon in Albert Lea has given multi-sport enthusiasts the first chance at racing outdoors, literally kicking off our season.

Yes, Albert Lea is a stone's throw from IA at the southern end of the I-35 border, but its a local event that brings out the seasoned racer as well as the first time multi-sport racers. How cool is that? Although it is not a USAT sanctioned event, it is still a great choice for newer racers looking to test their skills.

For the last several years, the event has been organized by Final Stretch, but a local steering committee has reconvened to help in bringing the event back and work at continuing to grow the event for the state's multisport and active southern MN community.

The biggest change this year is the event transitioning from a triathlon to a duathlon. This is in large part to the severe water temps that we have to deal with hosting an event mid-May in MN. This winter, with ice that is 32 inches thick, we're sure to have unsafe water; not something the aspiring newbie or veteran wants to deal with. Lets face it, hypothermia is nothing to joke about. So, we are looking at a 2 mile run, 14 mile bike, and a 3 mile run format this year's duathlon here in Albert Lea.

Just as in years past we are encouraging everyone to come out and participate and enjoy being active in our great community. You can participate as an individual or put together teams of two or three to compete. Get your family together, challenge your neighbors, get co-worker involved, and have fun. There will even be food available for racers and spectators.

The event will take place on May 18 at picturesque Edgewater Park. We look forward to hosting and seeing you there.INFO & REG.

ED. Out thanks to Ross and Lynn ad all the other great multisporters in Albert Lea for keeping this annual race alive. The MTN Guys will be there. We hope you will be, too.
