SARTELL – With a national reputation as one of the best races of its kind, the Apple Duathlon has two new leaders who hope to keep that tradition alive.
Lisa Bollinger and Adam Konczewski are the new co-directors of the two-day event. The Apple Duathlon kicks off Friday with the kid's race at 5:50 p.m. at Sartell Middle School. The main event starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the middle school. The event attracts about 275 participants.
Participants in the duathlon run 5 kilometers (3.1 miles), bike 33 kilometers (20.5 miles), then run another 5K.
Duathlons are far less common than other types of races like the running-only marathons and half-marathons and the multi-discipline triathlons....
Bollinger said the Apple Duathlon is meant to be for everyone from the skilled racer to the newcomer. The swimming element of a triathlon can be intimidating to new participants, she said. Keeping it down to running and biking makes it much more approachable. READ MORE
