MATTHEW PAYNE (photo - with son, MIkey) posted his 10th victory of the 2014 yesterday and 33rd of his stellar multisport career at the Life Time Epic - Bend 125 yesterday. His time was a race record 4:07:57, lowering the 2012 mark set by Spokane, Wasington's Ben Greenfield by 14:44. His margin of victory over runner-up Brian Shaning, a former Wisconsin pro who now resides in Bend, was a flabby 12:40.
Laura Coombs (Bend, OR), who also won this event in 2012 is is a very, very nice person, was the fastest woman...
Her time was 4:52:51. FYI, the women's race record was set by St. Paul's HEATHER LENDWAY in 2013. It was HL's long course debut and her time was 4:29:50, which landed her in 4th place overall. RESULTS
TREADMAN DU - Yesterday's 9th annual run-bike-run in Pine Island was won for the 5th time by amiable La Crosse, Wisconsinonian, BRENT SINN. Winning for the women was 2013 US Duathlete of the Year JENN SCUDIERO, who significantly lowered JOANNA HALL's 2010 race record. Scudiero has won her last three races and has a total of 12 career victories. The event has 73 finishers. RESULTS
