February Disappointment and Despair
By Suzie Fox (from suz--news.blogspot.co.uk)
February is already over, I can't believe it is March! I started out the month of Feb with a VERY VERY disappointing 3:28 marathon in FL that turned into a training day. In the month leading up to the race I ignored many red flags and I did the race anyway. I am a very optimistic person and kept thinking everything would be fine but it wasn't. I am not surprised with my time at all just VERY VERY disappointed because I know that I can run much faster and I will, this just was not the time or the place. On a positive note, even though my time was a major bummer I did accomplish the one goal I needed to at this race which was a Boston qualifying time for 2014. Three of my training partners and I are planning to head to Boston next April and I can't wait to have a girls' trip and run the streets of Boston with these three fun and talented women. My sister and her in-laws were all over the 2 loop marathon course so it was really fun to see them so many times during the race which was in their home town so they knew tons of places to spectate and were also waiting at the finish line. The weather was also ideal, everything was perfect except for my performance....

This post shares my thoughts on our obsession with ultra endurance events and why I don't think that's a good thing for most people.
I want to argue that most people shouldn't make the jump to ultra(iron) distance and what's more, they shouldn't want to. I want to argue that racing, really racing and not just finishing, a shorter race is more enjoyable, healthier, and more challenging than finishing an ultra distance for nearly everyone.
It's not just triathlon that has become infected by the ultra-endurance bug. Marathons have been the king of road racing for a long time and the niche race of ultra trail runs of 50k, 50 miles and even 100 miles have seen a huge increase in popularity recently. And there's plenty of ultra enthusiasts among open water swimmers, mountain bikers and RAAM participants....

Real butter, real cream, real cheese....
By Amy Bauch (http://amysrunningaround.blogspot.com)
I'm a Wisconsin girl.
Yes, I know I live in Minnesota, but that doesn't dispute the fact that I was born and bred in good, old Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Land of the free, home of the bratwurst.
I love all things Wisconsin -- from its cities to its cows and all things in between. I always tell people about our favorite state motto: Come smell our Dairy Air (.....to get the joke on this, say the motto out loud, but slowly...... now get it?)...

Clermont Draft Legal Challenge - Yesterday we posted a Q & A with Claire Bootsma, who will kick off her 2013 multi season at the Clermont (FL) Draft Legal Challenge next Saturday. Her Geniment, Dan Hedgecock will also be racing in "The Land of 15,000 Sinkholes" this weekend. We had some questions for him. Here are his pithy answers:
MTN - Do you feel fit and ready for the DL challenge?
Hedge - I'm looking forward to the DL challenge. I'm very fit right now and look forward to seeing if I can keep up with a bunch of younger guys for an hour.
MTN - How's your health? Injury free? Is anything in you life getting in the way of doing your best on March 9?
Hedge - Last April I started to really focus on resolving any imbalances and tight areas I had. I don't think I've ever been this injury free in my career. It feels fantastic....
