Race Coverage - Nordica Stocker (photo L) is very pretty and has really thick hair. But you already knew that, didn't you?
Did you also know that her favorite color is orange? And that she unashamedly watches the "Real Housewives of (fill in name of city here)" and is really sad because Amy Winehouse died? (FYI, We are, too!)
And did you know that she won her first multisport race last Saturday?
And she did so with panache....

Event Preview - Lake Elmo Park Reserve is an ideal place to stage a duathlon, and for the past decade some of our region's most exciting and competitive run-bike-runs have been contested there. The courses are scenic, fast, well-designed and easy to manage. A Win-Win situation for athletes and event producers alike.
The 11th edition of the event of which we speak--the Oakdale Duathlon--will take place on Saturday and between 400 and 500 folks are expected to race. A glance at the current start list has us anxious to do some prognosticating. So, without further ado:...

Race Coverage - The 5th annual Cinco du Mayo Long Course Duathlon, contested at Square Lake last Saturday morning, featured record attendance (300ish total entrants in both events, including the requisite no-shows / 251 finishers), a Shaq-tall guy in a sombrero, Casa Lupita tacos, Margarita glasses as awards and brilliant performances.
An oatmeal ceiling of clouds, light to moderate breeziness and 50-degree temps greeted the athletes, as did the aforementioned tall guy in the ridiculous, albeit ridiculously cool, hat. The guy was co-race-director Jason Goepfert, a terminally likable chap. His lovely, smiley wife, Lisa, was also clad in a sombrero and, like Jason, wore a sinister-looking bandito mustache, which was fake, of course. * LIKE TUMBLING DICE - Angie Hop, 41, and Neil King, 62, lowered their respestive division's course records at Chain of Lakes last Saturday. Hopper took her own year-old women's 40-44 and overall masters record (1:05:15) down by 32 seconds (1:04:43.). King (photo L), a two-time Minnesota Grand Master of the Year nominee, took an even more voracious bite out of the men's 60-64 mark. His brilliant 1:03:32, which landed him in 11th place overall, was 1:43 better than the record he set in 2011.
* SMELLING THE FLOWERS - Cathy Yndestad and Julie Hull continued their early season assault on some of America's most challenging triathlons on Saturday at the iconic, huge and mature (30th annual) Wildflower Half in central California. Both girls performed admirably, with Cathy finishing fourth among amateur females and Jules podiuming (3rd) in her new AG (40-44W). Last month CY and Hull placed 2nd and 4th respectively at the ridiculously brutal, yet totally awesome, Leadman 125 in Nevada. Fellow Minnesotan Angie Schmidt took the masters crown in that one, rocking a 3rd place overall finish among amateur women.
