"I Was a New Person"....

Two finish lines. Two completely different days. Two moments in my life where I learned how to dig deep and find a new layer of who I am and what I can accomplish.

The picture on the left is at Lake Placid. I had the worst month of my life leading up to it. I had my heart broken and had to scramble to even find a way to get to this race. I was alone and sad and so broken. This course was no joke. And mile 80 of the bike I crumbled. My body and my brain had given up. I went into T2 thinking I was going to turn my chip in and quit. But I pulled myself out of that funk and forced myself to start the marathon. I figured even if I walked a marathon it was better than quitting. And I took it one mile at time. Sometimes I walked. Sometimes I ran. But once I got to mile 25 I cried the whole way into that finish line. Because I did what I came to do. I pushed my sadness and bullshit aside to see what I had deep down inside of me. And it was so fucking cleansing. I got rid of a lot of baggage that day...

Gaby and Becky Honored by USA Triathlon...

hopkinsbecky.pngUSAarizonagaby.png Triathlon posted it's 2019 Triathletes of the Year yesterday. - LINK  - We were please that two of the three Minnesotans we predicted would be honored, indeed were.

That said, we were somewhat dismayed by the absence of TONY SCHILLER among the male Grand Masters. We thought he would either win the GMOY, or place a close second.

The Minnesotans who were included were GABY BUNTEN in the female Open category (HM), and BECKY YOUNGBERG (listed as Becky “Youngblood”), who was named Master of the Year Honorable Mention....

A Love Letter to My Dumb Bike Trainer...

erinbiketrainer.png

By Erin Weiler (sweetsweatlife.com)

We’re snow deep in winter right now, which means one thing: lots of time on the bike trainer. Teammates and friends are posting Zwift workouts, and I recently finished a 28-day bike block (my third go-round of it), which got me thinking: what is it about the trainer – specifically my “dumb” lime green Kurt Kinetic road machine trainer – that I love so much? Let’s have a look…

We’ve been together since 2013 and have seen a lot of miles – from easy 80w recovery rides to hard 5-hour interval rides. Most of those have been happy miles, but others have been tear-filled and soul-crushing (I’m looking at you, 2017 IM Canada training). But you know what? Even the crappy ones made me appreciate what my body, legs, and mind are capable of.

I love that you’ve taught me the power of focus. There’s nothing like staring at 3sec and lap power fields on my Garmin – Girl Talk blaring in my headphones – trying to maintain and hit target watts during a mind-numbing 45-minute interval x3. Or...
