The only thing Matt Payne has to do to make Best of the U.S. history this coming Sunday, is get to the starting line. The 2013 BOUS National Championship will run on June 2, hosted by Leon's Triathlon in Hammond, Indiana, just outside Chicago.
Never before has a Defending Champion returned to actually defend their crown. Matt is not only returning; he has a really strong chance to actually repeat. He comes into the race

ED. Elaine Nelson is a tremendous endurance athlete. A national-level Nordic skier, she has proven in her first two years as a triathlete that she also possesses national-class skills in that discipline. When we learned that she was preggers, we asked her if we could post stuff about her gestation so that the entire Minnesota multisport community could celebrate the experience, albeit without the cravings, bloating and other discomforts, with her and her husband, tri-dentist, Grant.

Hope you're doing well and not working too hard!
We had our 20w ultrasound and everything still looks good. We're having a BOY! My husband, Grant, is super excited. (I honestly thought all along we were having a girl - better return those girl clothes I bought!). The fetus (aka "Tadpole") is very active and loves to go weight-lifting, running, and swimming with me (he gets a little quieter on the bike - maybe a little squished?)....

I sipped my coffee in smooth satisfaction as the sweet smell of roasted, chocolate covered hazelnuts billowed up against my nostrils. Life was good. Like a gentle hammer, I set my cup down on my cubicle desk and picked up the list I had just finished compiling. In my hand, I held 2013 like a prized ribbon. I paused for one last satisfied glance at my race schedule then rose from my chair to pin it to the fabricated wall. Pain flooded over my knee cap, reminding me that not everything is in my control.
Last fall I celebrated a great training and racing season with a solid bike ride. It was one of those days where the wind threatened to snatch the roof tops right off the houses. Being slightly demented, I was enjoying the agony as I cranked down hard on the pedals, pushing my way home. But I made one mistake.
