By Ananda Bates, first Ironman at age 42 in 11:36

This years Ironman Wisconsin saw a huge showing from the Minnesota tri community, both in participants and supporters alike. With 304 MN based triathletes I was one of a group of 8: Karl Adalbert, Mark Evans, Anthony Hirschman, Jmatt Keil (Kona Bound), Joe Langel, Hilary Patzer (Kona bound), and Meghan Quinlan, all trained by former Iowa State track coach Kristy Popp under the Active8-u www.activ8-u.com founded by Moira Petit and Erik Gabrielson....

Dan vs. Dan

Dan ArlandsonSQUARE LAKE LONG COURSE - Maple Grove’s elusive Erin Farrens has raced at Square Lake on two occasions, in 2007 and last Sunday. In ’07 she finished 2nd behind course record-setter Marlo Crosby. On Sunday, she won, her victory marking a successful return to racing after more than two years on the sidelines where she did a lot of other stuff, much of which involved acts of parenting.

Those of us who remember Erin are happy to report that she looks the same at she did in 2006, when she was a more active member of our state’s tri scene.

Ruth on the podiumPOWERMAN ZOFINGEN - The awesomest performance of the weekend by a Minnesotan was turned in by Rochester’s first-year pro Ruth Brennan Morrey, who podiumed at the World Long Distance Duathlon Championships in Zofingen, Switzerand on Sunday. Considered the most difficult run-bike-run on the planet, Ruther entered T2 in 9th place, slightly more than 20 minutes behind leader and eventual winner Eve Nystrom of Sweden. Nystom was also victorious here in 2012.

SQUARE LAKE XIV - Dennis Dane and Heather Lendway repeated as champions at yesterday’s Square Lake Short Course Triathlon. The perennially smiling Dane matched strides with his handsome, Croc-wearing four-year-old son, Ryan, on the final straightway and finished in a time―1:23:33--that was 54 seconds faster than last year. In the 14-year history of the race, only Patrick Parish (1:22:03 in 2010) and Neil Miller (1:22:19 in 2007) have gone faster.

Beth's Affordable Housing

Couch caveThe MSU Spring Tri was contested on September 1. Twenty-nine athletes started the event and 25 finished. What we find to be most cool about the results is that we don’t know ANYONE on the list, except runner-up Matt Busch, who we don’t know personally but are aware of because he won the very first tri he did, which was the MSU Spring Tri, we think. We also know that Matt is a good guy because Chris Crocker, who we trust implicitly, told us that he is. Matt turned in the day’s fastest bike and run splits.

Friendly Results...

gretaHarvest Duathlon III - Have you seen the 2013 results page for last Saturday's Harvest Du? At first glance it appears chaotic, as if the participants were listed by height or weight, instead of place or time. This is because we assumed we would see a listing of finishers from 1st to last.

But you know what happens when we assume.

At second glance, though, we figured out that the results were alphabetical, which is cool because it makes everyone equal and people, especially those who finished in the middle or back of the race, can easily look up their own times and places, or those of people they know. So, we get it. These results are designed to be "friendly," which we totally appreciate....
