Race Coverage - The guy that MTN assigned to cover the Life Time - Chanhassen Indoor Tri last Saturday overslept on race morning. He later explained that he was watching a "24" marathon on Netflix and hoped to get to bed by 11 PM, but at 10:59 Jack Bauer got exposed to a weapon's-grade pathogen and had to be sprayed with a power washer and scrubbed with...

Race Coverage - Last Sunday the Indoor Du at MSU was staged, appropriately and unsurprisingly, at Mankato State University. Fourteen run-bike-runners (seven dudes, seven dudettes) participated in the hour-long event.
To assert that the event was friendly and informal would be an understatement akin to suggesting that Chris Farley (photo R) used to have a slight "weight problem."
How friendly and informal was it?...

Race Coverage - Julien Sein, who is a French guy, and American girl Tracie Kent, each won the Tri-U-Mah for the 3rd time on Sunday. Sein, who has been to Jamaica and doesn't like to wear ties, has won this well-attended (156 finishers) indoor tri for the third consecutive year, covering an event record 19.049 miles. For Kent, who works at Target and goes to races with a really nice guy named Louis, it was her third win in four tries. She was 2nd in her non-winning effort back in 2009. Tracie, a coffee lover, covered 14.411 miles on Sunday, which was .385 off the PR she posted in 2011....

YWCA Winter Indoor Tri - The YWCA has been putting on indoor triathlons for a number of years now and they are perfecting that format. On Sunday, the YWCA hosted its Winter Indoor Triathlon, they also have fall and spring indoor triathlons, at the Midtown YWCA. The race featured sprint (600 yard swim-10 mile bike- 2 mile run) and mini-sprint (400 yard swim-8 mile bike- 1 mile run) formats, as well as a newly added Youth Splash and Dash for kids ages 9-15. As a participant and observer of these races over the years, I have to give credit to the YWCA team for tweaking their races every year to make them more participant and fan friendly. The hospitality area, where everyone is welcome to share in snacks and poster making, is one great feature of the race....

OptumHealth Performance Indoor Tri #1 - A research study at a semi-prestigious community college in Nickeragwah (phonetic spelling), wherein nine people were interviewed, proved conclusively that ONLY COOL PEOPLE BECOME TRIATHLETES.
Truer gibberish was never spoken, and the findings of that groundbreaking study were echoed loudly on Sunday at the inaugural Optumhealth Performance Indoor Tri, which launched the 2012 OHP Indoor Series. Only cool people were there.
Like who, you ask?
* Well, let's start with Trisha, 15, from Prior Lake, who is as cute as a button. She rides a Cervelo, which means that her parents are doing okay financially. Lately, she's been bugging her mom, who is very, very...
