HEDGE WINS PRO DU NATIONALS!...SLIGHTLY UPDATED...

dan(Photo by Troy Hedgecock, Dan's proud father, after his son won the USAT Elite National Du Champs.)

Race Coverage Teaser - MTN just learned that Dan Hedgecock made the most of his pro duathlon debut this morning by WINNING the USAT Elite Duathlon National Championship in Alabama. We have no details at this time but were told that fellow Minnesotan David Thompson finished 3rd, and in the women's pro race, Hedge's sweetheart, Claire Bootsma, took 7th against a stellar assemblage of veteran du-sisters. Totally Awesome!

Dan pocketed $1500 for his effort. How cool is that!

In yesterday's post we predicted that Hedgecock would finish 4th. We have never been happier to be WRONG! Congrats, Dan!

Chase, Mace, Megan, Chella Et Al....

chasemegan(Photos L - R - Chase Higgins. We're not sure if he is the Chase Higgins who won the LT-Plymouth Indoor last Sunday and Megan Trickey, who did claim the women's title there.)

Race Coverage - Mace Pfutzenreuter did not win the Life Time-Plymouth Indoor Triathlon last weekend. But we wish he had. Why? Because he has the coolest and most interesting name of all the male contestants. We think his last name is pronounced "Futzen-Royter." We assume that the "P" is silent.

Though Mace, who is an annual participant at the Buffalo Triathlon, did not come in first on Sunday, he nevertheless did very well. He placed 6th overall. Good for you Mace. See you at TriBuff....

Well Attended Events...

mollieron paul(Photo - Mollie Bousu, who did the LTF - Lakeville Indoor Tri last Sunday.)

Event Coverage - Two more Life Time Fitness Indoor tris were staged last weekend, one on the south side of the Metro in Lakeville, the other in the western suburb of Plymouth. Both events were well-attended, Lakeville boasting 90 finishers, while 60 athletes completed the challenge in Plymouth.

Here is some stuff about a few of the participants:

LAKEVILLE - A guy named David Labno and a girl named Colleen Moser came out on top last Sunday. We scoured the Internets for info on Labno and found a Facebook page for a guy with that name, but it says that he lives in Illinois and is a staunch Ron Paul supporter. In fact, his wall consists almost entirely of Ron Paul stuff. This guy really, really likes Ron Paul. Is it possible that the David Labno who won the triathlon is the staunch Ron Paul supporter guy from Cicero, Illinois? Probably not....

Racing Can Be Fun....

danThe Most Fun I've Had in a Race

By Dan Hedgecock (danhedgecock.blogspot.com)

This weekend I raced the age group draft legal race at the Clermont Challenge. It was a short trip down to Florida and back. I arrived in Orlando at 2:45 on Friday afternoon and flew back out at 6:30 the next day. Even with the quick turnaround I had a great time.

The race on Saturday was unlike anything I've ever done. I lined up with 75 other people, much more than the 20-30 that I'm used to. The swim was very physical. Most of the guys were at least decent swimmers because of the draft legal style of racing, and I swam over a few people, a few people swam over me, I choked down a lot of water and got kicked in the face. I came out of the water 42nd, still a lot of work to do there....
