Race Previews

A Superior Experience...

ann(Photo - Dr. Ann Sudoh is one of the faves to win the women's title on Sunday.)

Superior Man I - This first-time event features a satisfying turn out (400ish participants) and a strong field. A handful of folks with impressive half IM creds will be racing, as well as, more interestingly, a large contingent of folks with sweet short course resumes. We're anxious to see how these athletes fare. We anticipate some breakout performances.

For giggles, here's the Whos and Whys of our predicted men's podium....

The Promise of Awesomeness...

mg panMaple Grove Dare to Tri III - This ambitious three-year-old event is one of those rare races that became an instant classic. It's venue, staging, execution (fantastic volunteers!), abundant amenities and grand VIBE are major league; totally first class. It's therefore unsurprising that 1200+ athletes (from 24 states) have enrolled for Saturday's race; that's a 33% increase over the 2011 numbers....

IMOO Preludes, Fast Girls in Lakeville & Harvest Goddesses...

peeing(Great Nick Morales Photo - This is NOT a pic of Randy Fulton peeing, but it sure looks like it. What does this shot have to do with what's posted below? Nothing, really.)

Micro-Previews - Without preamble, here are MTN's predictions for Sunday's triathlons:

- 14th PIGMAN HALF - DKT will win for the umpteenth (8th) time. We think that, as a motivating prelude to her IM debut in Madison next month, Kortney Haag will not only share the Winner's Circle with David, she'll set a CR and PR in the process. We're pulling for you, Kort!

Also, we expect Suzie Fox, Minnesota's fastest athlete who owns more than five dogs, to blow away her 70.3 PR. She has raced brilliantly in 2012, and a next level effort on Sunday could solidify a Triathlete of the Year ...

Duluth Lovers & Mexican Vacations...

beth(Photo - Beth Shipston having a wonderful Hair Day.)

DULUTH TRIATHLON - Beth Shipston loves Duluth. It was there that the totally pretty, fun-loving single mom from Thunder Bay did her first triathlon--Brewhouse--and was introduced to baby back ribs, to which she has become irretrievably addicted. Her favorite Post-Czar Russia-inspired burrito restaurant is there, too, as is her favorite craft brewer (Fitger's).

She'll be visiting her favorite American town next Saturday. And eight days after that, as well. On Saturday, she'll participate in the inaugural Duluth Triathlon. Two Sundays hence, she'll to the Superior Man as be a part of a relay team.

She didn't want to choose between these first-year half IMs, so she found a way to do both. How cool is that! ...

He's Ready to do This....

drew(Photo - Drew Scott with his living legend dad. Drew, Adam Webber and Dan Hedgecock, though not necessarily in that order, are our picks to podium at Nationals on Saturday.)

USAT AG NATIONALS - The current frontrunners for the USAT Athlete of the Year Award (Male), in our fallible opinion, are Drew Scott, 22, Boulder, Colorado, Adam Webber, 31, Denver, Pennsylvania, and Daniel Hedgecock, 25, St. Louis Park, Minnesota (photo below). And yes, we believe that these amazingly talented guys will, in any order, land on the overall podium at Nationals this weekend. Adam, the amiable 6'5" cop, and Hedge have been there before. Scott, son of Hall of Famer Dave Scott has not, BUT he has been kicking arse, amateur and pro alike, all season long. ...

New England is Lovely This Time of Year...

logo2012 USAT AG NATIONALS - Nationals is Saturday, and we're peeing ourselves anticipatorily.

Okay, that sentence is clumsy and we totally made up the adverb. Nevertheless, we're sure you caught our drift.

In this post, we will discuss the Minnesota women who will be participating in Burlington this weekend. Even though two-time Nationals podiumer Cathy Yndestad won't be there, we're sending a very strong estrogenic contingent, perhaps our best yet....
