Duathlon Nationals Race Report - It has been a long 10 months since I was hit by a pickup truck while cycling last June. Today (Saturday) was my first chance to race again since the accident. It has taken alot of patience and training to get back to just being able to participate.

I had the chance to compete in the USAT Duathlon National Championships today in South Carolina against the best athletes in the country.

I have to admit I was nervous and a little unsure of how the day would go, but as the day went on, the smile on my face grew even with the pouring rain and cold wind. I was having fun again.

Tonight we went to the awards. This year I moved up an age group for the World Championship qualifier and finished 4th....

Ironman Puerto Rico πŸ‡΅πŸ‡· 70.3 was amazing! The course was hot and hilly but that’s what makes it amazing. I got a course PR of 6:09 on the dot which was 14 min better than last year and ONE HOUR better than in 2016πŸ™‚ With 9th place in my age group and the best race volunteers on the planet I’m leaving this race extremely happy:)

Thanks to my friends and family for once again dealing with a pre-race crazy monster😫
Thank you Kris Swarthout -my coach at Finalk for getting me ready for this race. I have seen gains at every race I’ve done since being one of your athletes . πŸ™ŒπŸ»
Teresa Zimbric Briest- my swim time was again a PR. I was 7th in my AG for a swim and this is due to you. Thank you for being an incredible swim coach:)πŸŠπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ
Chris Balser I was 4th in my AG on the bike- And with the help of you making my bike a direct extension of my body I have you to thank for that. You are amazing at what you do. Anna Zawadski you teach me something new about myself and biking every week. I’ve only been biking for 2.5 years and the gains I’ve made in that time is also because of you. Having a strong female athlete teaching me to be a badass on the bike(s) is definitely what I need.
Bob Sumada and Rich Sherman and Ambrose. Um, what can I say?! You guys are the best bike shop I could ask for. Again, thanks for making sure I was dialed in before I shipped my bike. πŸš²πŸš²πŸš²  ...

Kelly Claims 2nd Indoor Victory...

YWCA INDOOR TRIATHLON #2 - The first event in the Y's four-race series was large, a sell-out, in fact. The second race, which was staged on February 18, was even more "sold out." The January event boasted 62 total finishers. Seventy-seven crossed the finish line at the Feb event. Very cool. Love the direction this attendance thing is taking.

The YWCA events feature three distances, a mini, a sprint and a long.  Tops in their gender in the mini were tri coach / motorcycle enthusiast PHIL SCONZERT, who threw down a time of 28:03, giving him more than a four minute advantage over  the winning time here in January. Runner-up ANDREW HOSALLA and PATRICK KOEGEL filled out the men's podium.

Leading the way for the women in the mini was KIRI FAUL. Beautiful name, huh! She placed 4th overall among the 23 entrant field. PAULA MACKEY and TANIA KOEGEL, who is probably related to the men's bronze medalist, grabbed the 2nd and 3rd spots....

Bling Queen Victorious at Eagan...

LIFE TIME LAKEVILLE INDOOR TRI - While the Chan race boasted a record turnout, the Lakeville event was able to basically match it's 2017 crowd. Seventy-one participants finished the event.

Leading the way for the guys was Superior Man and Ironman Arizona veteran ANDY AKASON, who won handily. His point total was 205, a full 13 points better than the runner-up.

Originally from Eau Claire, Andy lives in Rosemount now and is a personal trainer at LTF Eagan. He loves his Golden Retriever and believes, as we do, that "only real men listen to Taylor Swift." He watches "Game of Thrones" and admits to enjoying Sponge Bob. He uses Everyman Jack personal grooming products.

His co-winner was AMANDA NESBITT,  a self-described "Bling Queen," who listens to "Good For Gary," an excellent cover band. She has awesome biceps (photo). FYI, she placed 3rd overall at Eagan.

Here are the Top 5 male and female finishers:  ...

Great Day for the Weums....

LAUREN_AND_MICHAEL.png

Photo - The family that tris together: Lauren and  Michael Weum.

LIFE TIME PLYMOUTH INDOOR TRIATHLON - Like the Chanhassen indoor, the Plymouth race on January 21 boasted a hearty turnout. Eighty-eight athletes finished the race, nineteen more than the previous year.

We hope this trend carries over to the outdoor season.

The men's winner was avid distance runner MICHAEL WEUM. Michael has traveled in South America and prefers Argentine food to Chilean cuisine, but agrees that the scenery in both countries is breathtaking.

Michael wasn't the only Weum to rock at Plymouth. His wife, LAUREN, placed 12th among the 52 women who competed.

Back to Michael: he prefers Jimmy Fallon to Stephen Colbert, pronounced "Cole-Bear," it's a French thing, and Jimmy Kimmel. Both he and his wife are into Christian music. We listened to one of their fave bands--"Sidewalk Prophets'--and liked them. Lauren agrees with us that the BBC's show, "Sherlock" needs to be a regular series. FYI, Benedict Cumberbatch is incredible as Sherlock....
