IRONMAN LOUISVILLE - Maple Grove's ERIN HYNDMAN-FARRENS, a 2016 Most Improved nominee, became Minnesota's 2nd all-time fastest woman at the IM distance two days ago at Ironman Louisville, where she finished 3rd overall in the women's race in a time of 10:02:29, which was an 11:50 improvement on her prior personal best set at Ironman Arizona in 2015. Only MICHELLE ANDRES of East Gull Lake has a faster 140.6 PR (9:50:23 - Kona '13).
Hyndman-Farrens' Louisville result is being considered for a Performance of the Year...

Team Valhalla Racing was the top American team at ÖTILLÖ Swimrun World Championships but did not finish the race as strong as they started. After emerging from the first and longest swim of the day in the lead, Minnesota-based pro triathlete David Thompson and Slowtwitch’s Lars Finanger matched the pace set by the eventual winners, Lelle Moberg and Daniel Hansson, and the runners-up, Paul Krochak and Oscar Olsson, if only for the first few hours of racing....
Happy? Yes. Satisfied? No...

IRONMAN WISCONSIN RACE REPORT - Ironman Wisconsin 2016 was the culmination of many things personal for me. Back in 2006 at only 28 years old my competitive running days were over. I had a badly herniated disk, severe nerve damage down my right leg and surgery in an attempt to reduce some of the damage. To this day I have nerve issues in my right leg and atrophy in my right calf. I continued to dabble in running a bit because it was in my blood. Any other endurance sport just didn’t seem appealing. I had run competitively since middle school, through college and didn’t know anything else. My run career highlights are 9:33 steeplechase, 1:15 half marathon, 16:13 road 5K.

CENTRAL LAKES CYCLE DUATHLON - JASON TOTH has three victories in four starts this season, the most recent of which was last Saturday at the CLC 24/7 in Fergus Falls, a great small city that is also known as "Otter Town, Minnesota" because it has a humongous statue of "Otto the Otter," in one of its parks....

ONE LAST TRI - DANI VSETECKA returned to her winning ways after a two-and-a-half month injury absence on Sunday at One Last Tri Olympic-esque (732m-27-10K). The win was the 2015 Rookie of the Year's second in four starts this season and 5th (in 8 starts) of her young career.
Her time was impressive - 2:08:33--and landed her in 5th place overall. The men who finished in front of her were credentialed athletes, starting with winner JASON TOTH (2:00:47), who was also victorious eight days earlier at Square Lake. (We suspect that Jason, who currently resides in Eagan, may be a New York state transplant.)
The runner-up was former Team Minnesota guy RYAN BAILEY, who got his pro license in 2015 then sort of disappeared. It was good to have him back on the local scene. Ryan's time was only eight seconds off Toth's pace...

FALL CLASSIC DUATHLON - The 9th edition of this "rescued" (By Derek Lindstrom at Excelsior Running, an awesome guy and successful running and multisport coach) event was staged at Lake Elmo Park Reserve yesterday. The star of the show, in our opinion, was JENN SCUDIERO, who placed 3rd overall and finished 13:04 ahead of the 2nd-pacing woman.
The victory was 14th of Scudiero's duathlon career. She is a former US Duathlete of the Year (2013) and overall (2013) and AG (2014, 2015, 2016) National Champion.
Jenn also won this race in 2014.
Winning for the men was 41-year-old Duluthian JUSTIN CUMMINS (photo), who podiumed in his AG and placed 21st overall at Sprint Du Nationals in Bend, Oregon on June 25. He kicked off the 2016 season with a 4th place (1st AG) finish at Cinco Du Mayo Long Course....
